The Way into Love

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

MW Editor’s Note:  Mentoring Warriors welcomes guest contributor Jacob Hall. Jacob lives and breathes music. At 28, his heart is to rest in and express the love of God to others through song and relationships.  Check out his insights into the way of love.

I have seen and experienced the goodness of God, so, therefore, I now have the knowledge to recognize it. The recognition of that knowing helps me to be able to walk in self-control.

Self-control does not always feel like I want it to, so that therefore teaches me perseverance. In perseverance, I see God for no one has endured more than Him in what He’s worthy of and the ways that men will perpetually try to rob Him of His glory.

In godliness, there is mutual affection because He Himself is One in Three. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have mutual ever-going on affection toward each other because they are the source of love.

2 Peter 1:5-9

“For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness, and goodness to knowledge, and to knowledge, self-control, and to self-control, perseverance, and to perseverance, godliness, and to godliness mutual affection and to mutual affection love.

For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

But whoever does not have them is near-sighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.”

In another place, Paul prays for believers’ love to abound more and more, and for their knowledge and depth of insight so that they’d be able to discern what’s best and that they’d be pure and blameless in the day of Christ, filled with this righteousness that only comes through Him, to the glory and praise of God.

We were created to house hearts like Him in that we could have a limitless capacity to be filled by these attributes of His love. To be ineffective, or to have unproductive faith is the indicator to look again upon God’s goodness and let it lead me down the road in finding more of this love.
