MW Editor’s Note. Mentoring Warriors welcomes guest writer, Tobie Plett. Tobie is intrigued by God’s Word and how it relates to life. In this post, he opens our eyes to how the enemy captures us through addictions that turn our Christian life into a zombie.
I saw this video on YouTube about a dead bug with a parasite inside of him, and the parasite was controlling his movements and walking, literally forcing the insect to walk in the direction the parasite wanted him to. Then I learned from the comments that the parasite will lead this insect to a larger species for the insect to be eaten so that the parasite can infest inside the larger animal.
And so is addiction, sin, the Devil. He will infect us, destroy us, and take us towards our dying breath. We are already dead in our sins, yet we are still active, the addiction controlling our movements and our walking. And we are led to interact with those around us (those bigger than us creatures). In our prideful exchanges and resentful relationships we bring out the worst of ourselves, infecting them with our pride, compulsive attitudes, bad habits, and anger, just like the parasite.
Galatians 5:13 says not to use freedom to indulge in the flesh, but to serve and love. Service and Love are the opposite of sin. The parasite has nothing to gain from our hospitality. We are already dead. And when we stop the parasite within us from infecting others with lies and pride we will eventually kill him, because apart from residing in new hosts, he will die in our already dead bodies. The parasite dies, and the addiction stops with us.
Life with a parasite is no life at all. Always gasping for air, barely holding on, lead to our consumption by others, coping with our substances at every turn. We need someone new leading our movements and walking. Someone who cares for us and has our best interests in mind.
Don’t get me wrong, death is necessary! We need to die, to be “crucified with Christ”! But we die completely, and for a while, killing the parasite, and then filled with a new Spirit, one that leads our movement and walking with love and care. Call upon God because he hears you.

My name is Tobie and I am from Canada presently living in Wichita, KS. I am first and foremost a follower of Jesus, and I desire for people to know how much Christ loves you. That has the power to heal addictions and change lives, which I am particularly interested in having people know.
