General Mentoring Helps

Team Malawi- August-September, 2024

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

August 27-September 14, 2024

God is up to something great in Malawi!  Through Emmanuel International, (EI) missionaries Scott, and Lorilee MacLean have invested decades in living out Jesus with believers in Africa. The MacLeans are committed to Christian Worldview Development, and often help is needed from the broader Body of Christ.  They live and work at  Chismos Theological and Vocational School teaching theological courses.

This year, the focus is on sowing the seed for a life-long mentoring journey with young men who want to take their faith seriously, and Mentoring Warriors has been invited to lay the foundation for this mentoring journey.  Christ-focused mentoring.

Jesus told his disciples “As you go through life, make disciples.”  Matthew 28: 18-20.  The apostle Paul invested in young Timothy. In 2 Timothy 2:2, we see Paul telling young Tim to take the things he heard in Paul and to invest them in the next generation that would be able to teach others also.  Four generations knowing Jesus, because of the faithfulness of one.

David Riffel, Founder, and Executive Director of Mentoring Warriors will teach at EI’s Chismos School on the biblical foundation for mentoring. David, along with Scott and a few other men will take about a dozen young Malawian warrior-aged (20-30 year olds) men to the Zomba Plateau for a weekend mentoring-intensive retreat.

Sandy will join Lorilee in investing in a group of young Malawian women through life-on-life sessions ranging from learning a new handcraft to teaching God’s call for women in areas of character and purity growth.

We are Looking for Team Members

There are several ways you can join Team Malawi.

Prayer. We hold prayer high because we hold Jesus high and exalted. Without the presence of Jesus going before, during, and after this trip, it is nothing more than a humanitarian effort. We need Team Members to ask the Holy Spirit to fuel the flame for Jesus-centered mentoring in Malawi.

Supplies. Part of the practical skills development includes sewing, embroidering, and knitting supplies that are used to teach the women life skills. If you have supplies, email us at with a list of what you can donate. We will work with you to get the supplies to Wichita before August 10.

Financial.  Yes, it takes funds to make any mission trip happen. The overall cost for this Malawi Mentoring Warriors trip is USD 6,000 (about 10 Million Malawian Kwacha). This includes scholarships for the Zomba Plateau Mentoring Intensive weekend, along with travel expenses for David and Sandy and funds towards the sessions Sandy and Lorilee will have with the young women.

The good news is some of the Mentoring Warriors supporters have provided a good start towards the funds needed!  Would you prayerfully consider donating to Team Malawi?  Follow this link.  Mentoring Warriors is a US- 501(c)3 non-profit. All donations made in the USA are tax-deductible.  For those in Canada, you can donate to  In the “Order Note” box, mention Mentoring Warriors.

Not Just a One-Time Endeavor

This is not intended to be a one-time two-week mission trip. The long-term vision is to invest in the young Malawian men and women such that they catch the Holy Spirit’s vision for 2 Timothy 2:2 generational Kingdom mentoring.  Mentoring Warriors USA wants to return in the future with more mentors who will carry the torch of Jesus in years to come. We anticipate this mentoring experience to be mutually edifying as we also learn about what God is doing in Malawi amongst His people..
