When the Storms Come- And They Will

11 For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare[a] and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. 12 Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. 13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 ESV

We often read these verses and think that nothing will happen to us or the ones we love. But, what are we to do when something happens? Do we still trust in God’s goodness? Do we believe that He is in control? Do we shake our fist at Him in anger because He could have prevented something?  There are moments when it doesn’t seem like there is hope or future in our situations.  Everything falls apart in less than a minute. Our security is gone in a phone call. The moment comes when we least expect it. It hits us hard. We ask God these questions. The hard part is that there sometimes isn’t an answer that makes the pain go away.

We can be swallowed by the confusion. This is the moment that matters. When the world tells us if God loved you this wouldn’t have happened. IF God could, He would have ______________?  We must choose Him!  We must trust that when everything falls apart, God still loves!  That God still cares and is near, waiting for you to run to Him.

I believe there are moments we aren’t meant to understand. The Father wants us to run to Him. These moments show us our great need for Him. It is all too easy to say this when I have not been hurt. When life seems to be going well. When the storm is far off. I have been through a few storms. My storms are different than the ones you will face. Everyone will go through some kind of storm. Sometimes it’s like a little bit of rain and light wind. Or, it might be an F5 tornado!  When the storm hits, where have you gone to safety?  Did you run to the Father and the community He gave you?  Or, did you go outside and try and brace the storm alone?

God has given you people to surround you in the love and protection of His grace. Are you going to let Him protect you or push them away?  He wants to show you grace and love. You have to remember He was the first to get into the storm. He went because He does love you. He let His Son make the ultimate sacrifice because He does come for you.

Listen to HIs voice. Embrace His love! Let go of what you are holding on to so tight. Trust Him to take care of it. Because God is the one that gave it to you in the first place.
